SAFE-T-TRIP-WEIGHT: Ensuring Safety and Compliance

The Safe-T-Trip-Weight is an innovative tool specifically designed to test the safety function and proper tensioning of pull cords on safety devices on conveyor systems. By applying a consistent, predetermined force and angle, it ensures the reliable activation of emergency stop and protective stop mechanisms, helping maintain compliance with safety standards, reduce the risk of system failures, and enhance workplace safety.

A Consistent Way to Test Pull Wire Systems

Manually pulling a conveyor safety cord will tell you whether the system trips, but it doesn’t provide a consistent test force from one location, technician or inspection to another.

The Safe-T-Trip-Weight uses a 6.8 kg test weight and a controlled drop to apply a predetermined load to the pull cord. The unit is designed for applications requiring a 70 N test force, with an adjustable drop-distance pin and levelling foot allowing the tester to set the unit up consistently in the field.

This gives maintenance personnel a practical way to test different points along a conveyor using the same method each time.

The main advantages are:

  • Repeatable testing – apply a controlled force rather than relying on how hard an individual technician pulls the cord.
  • Quick field setup – position the tester beneath the pull wire, connect it and perform the test with minimal setup.
  • Test along the conveyor – verify operation at key points throughout the pull wire system, not only at the switch.
  • Check pull cord tensioning – identify areas where excessive force, movement or incorrect tension may prevent reliable activation.
  • Heavy-duty design – the Safe-T-Trip-Weight is manufactured from thick polypropylene and designed for repeated use in harsh environments.

Video Guides

Below are two short video guides showing the Safe-T-Trip-Weight in use.

The first is a simple instructional video demonstrating how to set up and use the testing device.

The second is an on-site comparison between the traditional pull cord testing method and the much simpler, more repeatable method made possible by the Safe-T-Trip-Weight.
